Letter from the Chairman Re: Powwow PDF Print E-mail

In the past few years, our members have been asked when we will start up our powwow again.  Please allow me to explain some of the reasons for canceling it until further notice.

The first and most important reason to me is:

      1. Disrespect, obscene language and greed from two different drum group members towards our members.

May I remind all who read this that the Native American Center of SE MN is a 501c(3) charitable organization and our bylaws do not allow our membership to be paid or to profit from N.A.C..  It is all volunteer service from the chairman to the general membership.

      2. In the past, we have had vendors "skip out" on paying their fees, and some vendors had been bigoted against non-Natives at our events.

      3. Low public turnout and support from the community, and surrounding area, including our Native brothers and sisters.

The stress all this was putting on our volunteers was becoming too much.  So I propose that, until these issues are taken care of, we should discontinue the powwow and concentrate on our education, charitable and spirtual projects.

It is my hope that one day we will once again come together.  But, perhaps, instead of a powwow, as a gathering instead.

Healing and apologies are in order.  Great Spirit expects us to come together in peace and love to mend the Sacred Circle and act like decent human beings.

Under my administration, I hold myself and others responsible for their actions to protect the people from abuse and harm.

We are working hard for friends, family and community, and continue to do so.

Any further questions, feel free to contact me.

                                    Sincerely,

                                    James M. Wilson
